I can't sleep so I'll give you an update

I don't even know where to begin.. I'll start with the most resent!
I went to China! It was quite awesome (minus the pollution) I went with my band, we played for two schools and then played in a concert in the Forbidden City concert hall with multiple schools. It was so intense and nerve-wracking. The Locals there are pretty fearless with driving also, was actually quite frightening. Also they love to just grab out and take pictures out of nowhere! I felt like a celebrity. But in total it took two days to get there (left at 3pm arrived at 10pm, including a layover in Japan) But after that we toured the whole Forbidden City, absolutely beautiful, we saw a drum and bell tour, a traditional bungalow, we did a rickshaw tour, we visited a traditional tea house, and we of course saw the Great Wall of China. We went to a Cloisonné and Jade Factory. We had lots of Asian cuisine. And we did lots of shopping! All in all it was really fun and I will always remember it.
My friend and I got our project accepted for school, we will be helping at World Relief, where we help refugees come to our state. It will be lots of fun and we are doing it for the month of May. I had also done a Feed My Starving Children event with my friends which was also loads of fun. I am now preparing for a church retreat and hoping that I wont get kicked out of it because there aren't enough candidates and I didn't recruit anyone.. I tried, don't get me wrong... almost had two, but they both bailed on me.
Spring has finally come! The weather out is so nice and relaxing! I wish I didn't have to go to school, or at least have classes outside, wouldn't that be nice?
Anyways I can't think of much more to say, I will hopefully be more frequent with my posts.

Stagecoach - Unforgiven - True Grit Comparison

Stagecoach is a classic western because it has the traditional cowboys vs. Indians and the Indians portraited as brutal savages. It also has the hero overcoming challenges, ie: Ringo is a excaped criminal that falls in love with Dallas. A corrupted woman. True Grit on the other hand does have some Indians in it, but they aren't portraited as brutal savages, more of just a lesser being. The Heros in the movie are also overcoming obsticals, Mattie; she needs to obtain the respect or the marshals, and Rooster just has weird problems ingeneral.

Unforgiven is a revisionist western because has more darker and cynical aspects such as the cowboy slashing the girls face and the sheriff beating up English Bob. True Grit has a slight hint of a thing going on with Mattie and LaBoef which is just creepy also the Marshalls have a lot more power. The girl has a more strong roll also. The indians are given a more calm role and makes us feel sympathetic for them.

In my opinion True Grit is a classic western because it has more elements as classic than in revisionist. Some examples are the heros are overcoming an obstical, the hero doesn't want to be the hero and it is taken place in the middle of nowhere.

Online Film Analysis Assignment

In clip A the camera uses a strait-on angle with the characters to help us feel like we are part of the group by being eyelevel with everyone. It is also at a Medium shot because we see their upper body. Also while they are practicing their poker game, they use eye match so you can keep track of who is talking to who and where they are in relation of who the camera is focusing on. When the movie cuts to the club scene the music turns Diegetic because it is the music that is being played in the club and is also made to sound like part of the sound track. They also used low key lighting and brought alot of shadows to the shot.

In clip D the whole shot is a long take because there is no edits for 2 minutes. The Camera is also on a track because it is following the characters through out the scene. The story is also restricted narration because we only know as much as the characters do because they dont tell or show us things ahead of time. The sound is nondiegetic because the characters don't hear the music, just the audience does.

In clip E they use a medium shot with the characters because you see their upperbody. They also use a Strait-on angle to help make you feel like the character that you aren't seeing in the conversation. When the camera focuses on the composer they have backlighting coming from the window light. When the composer is playing on the piano they use deep focus composition to show the different depth in the room by being behind the other guy in the front and showing the composer in the background. It gives you a good depth perspective of the room.

In clip F they had a long take because for a minute they had no cuts. The camera was also on a track moving around in the house and following the characters. Also by the end of the clip they use Deep focus composition to show the house burning in the background the man in the middle ground and the mom in the forground. They also used a strait-on angle throughout the scene.

Oscar Nominated Rankings

Oscar Nominated Rankings
PRE WRITING - For each nominated film (in any order), list at least 3 (more if they come quickly and easily) impressions or thoughts.
SOCIAL NETWORK
1. Good acting
2. Keeps attention
3. Funny
TRUE GRIT
1. Great Choice in actors and actresses
2. Funny
3. Amazing scenery
TOY STORY 3
1.Love depiction of Andy
2. Fun
3. Good way to end the story
4. A bit intense for a childerens movie
THE KING'S SPEECH
1. Wonderful music
2. Great chemistry with Lionel and Berty
3. Oscar bait
INCEPTION
1. Exciting
2. I want them to tell me if the top falls or not!
3. Good acting
4. Love the music
WINTER'S BONE
1. Wonderful acting
2. Intense
3. You feel for her.

Next, as described in the instruction sheet, rank the films 1-6 and provide an explanation for each ranking that cites literary, theatrical, and cinematic observations, as well as why you ranked this film in relation to the others.

1.The Kings Speech:
I thought the story line of the main character over coming his problem was really moving to begin with. Also the Music, was just beautiful and the costume choices were perfect for the characters and the time era. I thought everything was brilliant, it was intense but it was also funny. I believe it should win.
2.Winters Bone:
Jennifer Lawrence did a phenomenal job playing Ree, she made the movie come to life. Everything about it is eery and gets you hooked and you have to know what happens next. The music added perfectly to the intensity. It also has a great story line and you fall in love with her family (except Teardrop, he scares me).
3.The Social Network:
The actors and actresses did a great job playing in the movie, without them I think the movie could have been bad. The music was a bit interesting (as in it didn't fit the type of movie) but at the same time it fit well for it. I like that it shows how American society has become (whether it be good or bad).
4.Inception:
I thought the director did a very good job visual making this movie come together, with out the effects, I would find it hard to imagine what is happening. The actors did a very good job, but I don't think it should win because it was just a good movie, not a great one. Also I don't think it should win because it confused a lot of people, and to win, people should be able to understand what is happening.
5.True Grit:
I wasn't satisfied with this movie. It could be that everyone psyched it up and my expectation for it was high. But don't get me wrong, it was alright, I loved Hailee Steinfelds performance. She has a real talent.
6.Toy Story 3:
Toy story was okay, but I felt like I had seen it before from Toy Story 2. They were very alike. The movie was very intense at some points and in my opinion a childrens animation shouldn't be that intense. But I thought it was a good way to end the series.

9.Rememberable
10.Powerful

14.Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush are the perfect duo, pair, friends, helper and the helped (whatever you want to call them)
15.Great cinematography

REVIEW OF - The Kings Speech
The Kings Speech was an amazing movie, and I enjoyed it from start to finish. It is funny but way intense at other times. Tom Hooper did a wonderful job of puting David Seidler work of art into film. The landscape does the movie wonders and the music adds onto it perfectly. Colin Firth does an amazing job playing King George VI with a studder. Helena Bonham Carter shows us how much of a versitil actress she is, going from a wicked character in Harry Potter, to a sweet wife devoting herself. Geoffrey Rush does a wonderful job as the speech theropist, together with Colin, they bring to the movie the perfect spark. to help her beloved husband Everyting melts together wonderfully. Not once was I bored in the movie, I would recommend it to everyone.

I don't get it.

I had a really wonderful school day, one of the better ones of the year. Then I have a band practice at night which went also well and was fun. So great day. But then I had to end it in such a bad way, and it was completely unnecessary. So it's either my brains natural response that I turn into a complete a-hole after a good day, or I'm just severely screwed up..
I think I am a severely screwed up a-hole.

Great weekend!

Finals were easy peasy, I'm so glad to have those done and I'm ready for the new semester! Should be fun, lots of fun classes I have. The weekend was quite relaxing and fun. Friday I hung out with my friend and on Saturday I had some friends over and we stuffed ourselves with pizza, then my friend and I went to pep band later that night and then had a sleepover. Sunday I had a relax, chill day. Today! I had a relaxing fun day with mi madre. Was a nice mini "Summer break" (no homework, nothing to worry about in classes).
Is it bad that I am slightly excited for tomorrow?'

Just an ordinary day..

First day back from break is always the worst, you know it's coming, but you still don't prepare your body. Oh well nothing exciting happened in school except for another disappointing spanish score, I got to work on that. After school from 7-9 there was a band rehearsal, more like a meeting. But it was still a lot of fun. Not much happened otherwise.
By the way, if any of you know asian comic book super heros/villains, let me know!

Has been awhile

So I haven't posted, in what seems like forever. My break was pretty good aside from a couple cruddy factors. It was really nice to relax a lot after having such a full week.
Friday (last day of school) I went to the mall with some friends to do some christmas shopping, and then after that went to a friends welcome back/birthday party. Great food. I can't remember what else I did in the weekend probably watched some movies. I also made a gingerbread house which was so not as fun as people make it sound. The frosting was evil. Monday-Wednesday I basically lazied around. Thursday I went to a christmas party and watched "Scott Pilgrim Vs. the world" which was surprisingly good. After that my friend and I got lost in heavy snow and very windy storm, picking up his sister. Friday (Christmas Eve) my family and I went to my uncles house and had some yummy food, aside from the ham, I don't like ham except for bacon. The dogs were still adorable. I later went over to my friends house for the first time and decorated gingerbread cookies which was a lot of fun (2 dinners!). Saturday (Christmas) I didn't get much, but I don't need a lot to make me happy. I got a christmas ornament(like every year), some DvD's, candy and some gift cards. I helped make the lunch/dinner. After eating I went back to my friends house and had lots of fun (2 dinners again!) Was a great Christmas.
Monday as you could read from my previous post, my fish died, which made me sad. I don't know yet if I want another because as we all know, it will eventually die again. I was thinking, maybe get a snake. What do you think? Tuesday I lazied around some more. Wednesday my socket where my tooth used to be got all puffed up so I went to the dentist, and they cut it open and cleaned it out, finding a fragment of a tooth and a bit of popcorn (I had like four pieces of popcorn, and carefully eaten them all! Was so not fair). But later I saw "Tron: the legacy" which was awesome, you all should go see it. Then I went to "the Melting Pot" and had an AMAZING dinner (despite the troubles of my mouth). Thursday I lazied around some more. Friday (New years eve) I went ice skating with some friends (I am terrible at it) then we went back to my friends house and made beef stroganoff, we screwed up the potatoes so I attempted to try to redo some, which turned out alright. Overall the night was a lot of fun. Saturday was another lazy day, and today was a lazy/homework day. I also watched "Brothers" which was intense but great.
So there is a 2 week update. I hope your holidays/New years was great! Lets hope all of us keep our New Years resolution!
